Book first; build the study plan second
Select HSK, Level 1, a date, a format, and a center. Check the selected center’s fee and payment method before submitting: the general official candidate guide gives payment routes, not one universal HSK 1 price. For overseas centers, use a passport to register. Your original test-day document must match the registration name and date of birth exactly; otherwise you may not be admitted.
Know what the classic HSK 1 sitting contains
Official HSK 1 page, read November 2026: 40 questions total—20 listening and 20 reading. Test content is about 35 minutes, plus about 5 minutes for personal information. The listed local start time is 13:30. Treat the time printed on your own admission ticket as the operational instruction.
| Section | Official HSK 1 page, read November 2026 |
|---|---|
| Listening | 20 questions; about 15 minutes |
| Reading | 20 questions; 17 minutes |
| Whole sitting | 40 questions; about 35 minutes of test content, plus 5 minutes for personal information |
Seven days before the test
Log in when the ticket becomes available, normally 5–7 days before the test. Check the name, gender, date of birth, ID number, date, time, format, center address, and entrance route. Keep the ticket after the exam: its details can be needed for result and score-report services.
Pack for your format
| Paper-based HSK 1 | Internet-based HSK 1 |
|---|---|
| Physical admission ticket; original valid photo ID; at least two 2B pencils; eraser. | Physical admission ticket; original valid photo ID. Do not bring paper or pencils unless the center explicitly requires them. |
For either format, keep phones, watches, tablets, laptops, and other electronics out of the test room. Do not bring personal scratch paper.
The 30-minute arrival routine
- Arrive 30 minutes before the admission-ticket time.
- Find the waiting area and put your ticket and original ID where you can show them.
- Store prohibited belongings as directed.
- Complete identity verification and security checks.
- Follow the assigned-seat and invigilator instructions.
For written HSK, arriving after the reading section begins means no admission. A late arrival during listening can also mean lost listening time without compensation.
Final door-check
- Is this the same original ID used at registration?
- Does the ticket match that ID exactly?
- Do I know whether my sitting is paper-based or internet-based?
- If paper-based, do I have two 2B pencils and an eraser?
- Do I know the exact entrance and the 30-minute arrival target?
- Are my phone and watch packed away?
What this page adds
The practical, printable decision sequence—center → fee → ID match → ticket → format-specific bag → 30-minute arrival routine—keeps registration mistakes separate from exam preparation. It also separates the general rule from center-specific facts: price, payment method, and the ticket’s time and location must be confirmed at the chosen center.
